- Develop, standardize, and enforce Group-wide protocols for engineering operations, maintenance regimes, and performance management.
- Align critical facilities programmes with HSBC’s Real Estate strategy and ESG commitments, while benchmarking performance against industry peers.
- Coordinate integrated planning and delivery across global, regional, and market teams to ensure consistent and responsive service provision.
- Engage senior stakeholders to translate business requirements into engineering solutions and secure executive endorsement of key initiatives such as decarbonisation and capital investment and strategic location strategy.
- Oversee energy audits, green building certifications, and decarbonization initiatives to advance sustainability objectives.
- Provide support and engineering guidance to the Datacentre Management team within technology.
- Drive global procurement strategies, negotiating supplier agreements and monitoring SLAs and KPIs to optimize cost and mitigate risk.
- Act as Global Risk Owner by embedding risk management and internal control frameworks to safeguard facility availability.
- Promote digitalization through deployment of building management systems, IoT monitoring, and predictive maintenance tools.
- Support the ESG Finance and Stress Testing teams in developing financial models and reporting aligned with our external disclosures.
- Monitor and report on key performance metrics, delivering regular insights to leadership via dashboards and executive reporting.
- Support the Global Head of Workspace Experience & Operations to drive performance outcomes and optimum value through our third-party suppliers (tier 1, 2 & 3) in respect of engineering excellence and alignment with the HSBC ESG objectives
- Strategic Planning & Delivery: Lead the development and deployment of a global operating model for critical facilities in partnership with CRE, IT/Ops, and business stakeholders.
- Standards & Protocols: Define, codify, and enforce Group-wide engineering standards, maintenance procedures, and operational processes.
- Benchmarking & Optimization: Conduct continuous benchmarking of critical facilities performance against industry best practices and peer institutions; identify and implement opportunities for improvement.
- Stakeholder Advisory: Provide expert guidance to regional and local engineering teams, senior management, and external partners on balancing risk, cost, and performance trade-offs.
- Asset Life Cycle Management: Oversee end-to-end Life Cycle Asset Management for Workplace Experience & Operations suppliers, including lifecycle renewal planning, asset maintenance programs, and capital planning, ensuring optimal OPEX and CAPEX decision-making.
- Supplier Engagement Management: Structure Supplier Engagement strategies around engineering, collaborating with the strategic WE&O provider to drive performance improvements, and foster accountability
- Investment & Sustainability: Collaborate with RES strategy and sustainability teams to optimize capital investments, deliver green building certifications, and achieve energy efficiency targets.
- Project & Programme Management: Oversee major build, expansion, and upgrade projects for critical facilities, ensuring cost effectiveness, risk mitigation, and quality delivery.
- Procurement & Supplier Management: Partner with Procurement to structure global supplier agreements, negotiate terms, and monitor SLAs/KPIs to drive value beyond contractual obligations.
- Risk Stewardship & Compliance: Maintain internal control frameworks, manage operational risk, and serve as Global Risk Steward for building availability and regulatory adherence.
- Innovation & Digitalization: Drive adoption of smart building systems, IoT sensors, and predictive maintenance tools to enhance resilience and operational intelligence.
- Performance Monitoring & Reporting: Implement real-time dashboards and reporting mechanisms to track key metrics, cost variances, incident response, and continuous improvement outcomes.
- Annual reporting – Accountable for providing key data and reporting inputs in collaboration with the relevant functions responsible for generating our annual reports.
- Extensive understanding of critical facilities engineering and real estate operations.
- Deep insight into financial services and datacentre infrastructure and global RES strategy.
- Expertise in risk management, continuity planning, and internal controls.
- Knowledge of climate risk and functional/statutory reporting requirements.
- Knowledge of sustainability frameworks and green building certifications.
- Proficiency in global procurement, contracting, and supplier performance management
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering,
- Experience:
- Extensive years of experience leading engineering or critical facilities team at a global scale;
- Demonstrated track record in financial services or similarly regulated, high-availability environments.
- Technical Skills:
- Expertise in Target Operating Model (TOM) development and deployment.
- Proficiency with building management systems (BMS), IoT integrations, and predictive maintenance platforms.
- Able to lead energy efficiency audits and oversee green building certification processes.
- Strong programme and project management capabilities, including cost-benefit analysis and risk mitigation.
- Knowledge:
- In-depth understanding of critical facilities engineering and global RES strategies.
- Familiarity with sustainability frameworks, ESG reporting requirements, and regulatory compliance.
- Knowledge of global procurement processes, contract negotiations, and supplier performance management.
